The greatest value of the reinterpretation is the orchestral performance: the ensemble of the Opera House plays not only precisely and beautifully, but with the kind of energy, flexibility, and style that has not been heard for a long time.
Péter Halász’s instruction is not limited to the musically accurate reproduction of sounds – on one hand, he exploits practices that can be transferred from great performers of the past with unqualified success; on the other hand, he has his own emphatic reading of the score. Not since Ádám Fischer’s performances of Ascanio have I heard a similarly well-handled and impeccable interpretation of Mozart here.
