Das Rheingold

If the Ring is a great opportunity for directors of any era, for music directors it is a mandatory test by which they must prove themselves. Well, here, too, Péter Halász has proved his ability to inspire the orchestra of the Opera House to thorough and profound work – thus did the musicians become vigorous and self-assured participants in the premiere.

The most successful parts of the performance (and those most befitting the stature of the work) were the musical accompaniments to the changes of picture – there being ambitious and well-formed orchestral phrases and at the same time screenings that realized the director’s conception in the best way. Péter Halász has succeeded in creating the atmosphere for a valid performance of Wagner.
